Wind Painting

Wind Painting limits the Wind filter to areas painted directly on the Scene or inside a Region. The painted mask is saved with that Wind effect.

  1. Select Filter Effects from FXMaster Controls, then add or edit the FXMaster+ Wind filter. For a Region, open FXMaster: Filter Effects and edit Wind there.
  2. Enable Manual Painting.
  3. Set Brush Radius (Grid Spaces).
  4. Under Painting, use Paint, Erase, or Clear.
  5. Paint over the Scene or Region while watching the brush and overlay preview.
  6. Select Save after the mask and Wind options are configured.

Paint the areas where Wind should influence the Scene. Useful patterns include:

  • A corridor through an open doorway.
  • Air moving around a large obstruction.
  • A canyon or river path.
  • Localized magical gusts.
  • Wind limited to one side of a Region.

Use a small brush for boundaries and narrow passages. Use a large brush to establish broad coverage, then refine the edges. The Wind effect exposes a normalized brush control in its configuration, while the runtime constrains the final brush size to a safe supported range.

Use Paint to add coverage, Erase to remove coverage, and Clear to remove the complete mask for the current Scene or Region. Disabling Manual Painting returns the Wind row to full procedural coverage; the saved paint mask is not used while Manual Painting is disabled.

Painting defines where Wind movement is present; the normal Wind options still define its character:

  • Direction and direction randomization.
  • Speed and density.
  • Distortion and turbulence.
  • Sway strength and frequency.
  • Gustiness, streakiness, sheen, and opacity.

Compatible particles and filters can still synchronize direction with a painted Wind row. The mask limits Wind’s visible field, while the row’s direction state remains available to dependent effects.
